The Relationship between Fashion and Personality

Dhanashree | 4 July 2019

It is not about what you wear outside, instead, it is about what you are inside. The strange truth is that the world, in many ways, perceives your ‘self’ within from you as compared to what you look like on the exterior. One cannot completely deny either that your sartorial choices are probably mostly driven by your truest instinct and reflect the self in utmost honesty. It just doesn’t remain about what you wear, instead, it also becomes a lot about what you choose not to wear.

If a school dress code instructs you to wear white socks and you come wearing fancy minion print socks, it is not just reflective of bad weather not letting your school socks dry but also about the sense of discipline in you. Your fashion and your personality are inseparable and mutual in existence. Where on one hand, your fashion choices largely determine your personality; on other hand, your personality also carves out for you a specific kind of fashion. Of course, it is the former which you are in control of and can maneuver as per your desire and requirements. Let us discuss a few attributes in detail that determine your fashion and personality.

Confidence:

Confidence is a quality that makes all tough tasks easy and causes difficult hindrances to easy tasks. Being low on confidence and being high on confidence is directly reflective of the fashion choices you make. People who are uncomfortable with their bodies often try and wear loose and oversized clothes that not just makes them look lazy but also shows in them a lack of confidence which starts reflecting in their walk and manner of speech. Conscious bodies always reflect weak personalities. Therefore, one should feel uninhibited in making their fashion preferences and not shy away from the current trends. Not everyone has the perfect body to flaunt, but hiding that body is reflective of being low on confidence.

Comfort:

One of the prerequisites of all fashion choices you make should be comfort. If something is not comfortable, it just cannot be suiting with any personality. Only in comfort you give space to your personality and be yourself. The degree of importance laid on comfort in any fashion trend or choice made by an individual determines the personality of that person.

Aesthetic instinct:

How you dress indicates how you think and feel and in what manner your artistic self finds expression in your fashion. Just adding a red scarf to a frilled white frock or choosing the right tie for your tuxedo is what determines this. Your sense of aesthetics broadens your personality and naturally makes you stand out, not just with what you choose for adding to your dress but also the fact that you make the extra effort and have the extra edge to make that addition.

Wisdom:

A vague term for a special quality. Yes, wisdom is very important for your fashion and reflects a lot about your personality. If you go for a farewell wearing a fancy, printed T-shirt then surely that will not just offend people’s sentiments but also make you come out as indifferent and careless. Similarly, for traditional occasions, if you experiment with your fashion keeping in mind your traditional outfits, it always puts a good impression on people and shows a strong and vibrant personality.

Clothes and Accessories:

What part from clothes do you include in your fashion requirements? Very often we end up restricting our fashion choices to our clothes. We forget that an Aviator would probably go better with a white shirt and for T-shirts you might try out a different frame. Your shoes, your watch, the nail paint, every detail on your body defines your personality and includes in what you classify as fashion. So, the next time when you are making a fashion choice in order to keep your look consistent and complete, put emphasis in every detail of your fashion.
