The Journey Of Kalamkari

Kalam is made by utilizing bamboo sticks. It is honed by utilizing a shaper. The kalam is honed from the best so as the shading can trickle from it and it leaves almost negligible differences on the material. A woolen material or a cotton floor covering or froth is tied with a string on the pen from where it is holed.

Printing:
The printing is completed by kalam; which should be absorbed in the shading for around 10 minutes before any printing is completed. The material floor covering which is attached to the kalam should be squeezed tenderly and the kalam should be drawn easily with no breakage and stoppage while chipping away at the fabric in order to get ideal lines with no additional dribbling or smears of the shading. The primary printing incorporates the utilization of only dark and red shading.

Washing and Boiling:
After the principal printing gets dry; the material should be washed appropriately for 15-20 minutes under running water. And keeping in mind while washing the material one needs to ensure that the fabric remains inside the water and does not come up. At the first glance generally the printing may smear a bit. When the washing is done, the material is plunged in a vessel inside which water is bubbled. The material should be bubbled in the water for around 10 minutes. After the bubbling is finished, the material should be dried in the sun.

Draining Process:
After the material is dried, the fabric should be doused in cow’s milk for nearly 4-5 hours. After the draining procedure, the fabric is dried once more. The draining procedure is fundamental for the second and third printing in light of the fact that after the draining is done, and when the shading is connected it doesn't smudge.

Second and Third Printing:
The second printing is finished by utilizing yellow shading. Following 3-4 hours when the yellow shading becomes scarce, the third printing hues i.e. pink, blue and green are connected.

Last Wash:
After all the printing is done, the material is again washed at last and dried in sun.  Later the material is sent for completing and is ready as a completed item.
